I would like to invite STEM Ecosystems to attend our 8th Annual Science Carnival on Saturday, November 5 from 5 – 8 pm. A Save the Date flier is attached to this message.
The Science Carnival, held annually the Saturday after Halloween, provides hands-on science experiences for PK – 8 grade students and their families with the goal of increasing students’ interest in STEM and in pursuing STEM in their future education. The free event has a Halloween/ spooky science theme with over 90 different hands-on science activities conducted by nearly 350 volunteers consisting of students and community partners. Any individual is welcome to attend this FREE event. In Fall 2015, over 2200 individuals attended the three hour event. Parking is provided free of charge (shuttle provided).
This year we are adding an educator/ leader portion of the Science Carnival from 2:30 – 4 pm where teachers/ afterschool program educators/ principals can tour the Science Carnival and interact with the presenters with the goal of bringing home science activities to their classrooms. Many of our Science Carnival activities are posted on a website (http://scactivities.cikeys.com); one of the pages for each of the activities is “In the Classroom” which discusses how the science activity might be implemented in a PK-12 grade classroom. Each activity has a unique QR code that links to the corresponding website and the QR codes will be displayed at the Science Carnival allowing teachers to “capture” a science activity if they are interested in using it.
For more information, feel free to contact Phil Hampton (VC STEM) or visit the Science Carnival website (http://www.csuci.edu/sciencecarnival).
