NYC’s ecosystem work became a little bit more famous when Design2Learn, an initiative that grew out of the NYC STEM Education Network, was featured on our local news last week. Design2Learn is an Investing in Innovation (i3) professional development program designed to equip educators to facilitate rigorous STEM learning through partnerships with STEM rich institutions, connect student STEM learning opportunities in school to out-of-school and most importantly to nurture and develop a student’s love of STEM.
Featured in the video is Jasmine Maldonado, Science Coach Supervisor New York Hall of Science, who facilitates formal-informal joint professional development, Emma Banay, Design2Learn Manager ExpandED Schools, and 24 of our enthusiastic educators. During the month of August, Jasmine and Emma will provide 30 hours of joint professional development to 48 middle school educators on NGSS science and engineering practices. Even more, because of this work, 400 middle school students will receive an additional 90 hours design-based activities that inspire students (and educators!) to create, discover and solve problems. Check it out!
