I work with the San Francisco Bay Area STEM Ecosystem, and we are starting to plan some community listening sessions with local families and students. We’d like to develop a simple survey as well as some standard questions to use with small discussion groups, and use this as the basis for a pre/post assessment with our community. Our goal is to learn about the community’s perception of and attitudes towards STEM and STEM careers and any barriers that may exist.
Has anyone here run a successful community listening session? Do you have any pointers on questions to use, ways to approach/organize small group discussions, or anything else around this?
I’d love to be able to get a short phone call with a few people who have had success in this area — please let me know if you’d be willing to share 10 minutes or so with me!
