What are members of your Ecosystem doing for National Engineers Week (Feb 19-25)? Please send me a link to your info, or a quick note about plans in or out of the classroom. Thanks!
Claire
Lots of great engineering activities to do but sometimes you need to relax and see a movie! I saw that the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is recommending, <span style=”color: #444444; font-family: ‘Helvetica Neue’, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;”>“Hidden Figures,” released in theaters nationwide on Jan. 6, tells the story of how three African-American women — Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson — contributed critical math, engineering and computer science work to the early missions of the U.S. space program. The movie, which was the No. 1 film at the box office in its first two weekends, is bringing a major focus to the often overlooked contributions of the Black STEM community.”</span>
Hi Thor,
The Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance executed a wonderful collaborative initiative around the run up to the movie including a book club in the Fall and a red carpet premiere of the movie for students. These tools could also work really well for the release of the DVD. Here is a link to the Tulsa program: http://tulsastem.org/hidden-figures/
They also provide tools that others can use/repurpose/rebrand for other communities including flyers, press releases and more.
In Buffalo, ISEP STEM Ecosystem is hosting a variety of workshops, talks and activities at the Buffalo Museum of Science. We highlight many of our Corporate and Collegiate Partners during this week long event. The schools in WNY have a Winter Break (imagine that in Buffalo) during Engineering’s Week, so the Museum’s awesome team of facilitators of learning organize and promote these great offerings. Here is a link to our offerings for the week.
