During the coming session, which begins January 3, 2019, the
Indiana Legislature will be considering a STEM Education Strategic Plan and
supporting budget proposed by the Indiana Department of Education. This
is the first comprehensive STEM plan considered by the state, and the Indiana
STEM Ecosystem Initiative has been a key contributing partner during the
several years of its development.Numerous members of the Indiana STEM Ecosystem will be
meeting with state legislators during the coming months to advocate for the
plan’s passage, and some key information that we want to be able to pass on to
legislators is how Indiana is lagging behind other states in its support of
STEM education. Therefore, if your state has implemented (or is
considering) a STEM education plan, please provide me with the following
information:- When was your state’s STEM
education plan passed? - What is the total amount
funded? - Did the STEM funding
plan include out-of-school programming?
I would also greatly appreciate any information or advice you can provide about the advocacy process in support of your state’s STEM plan. For example, were there data that seemed particularly impactful in convincing legislators to support it?
Thanks, Bob
