Please see a message from our friends at the STEM Education Coalition below:
Good Afternoon STEM Education Stakeholder:
Next week, the US House of Representatives Education and Labor Committee is expected to discuss and mark up the College Affordability Act, the Democrats’ proposal to reauthorize the Higher Education Act.
The Higher Education Act authorizes the federal government’s higher education investments, including federal student aid, institutional aid for minority serving institutions, teacher preparation programs, and more. It was last reauthorized in 2009.
With discussions around a much-needed reauthorization starting to heat up, the Coalition has drafted a letter addressed to leaders of the education committees in Congress, detailing STEM education priorities we seek to be addressed in any eventual reauthorization of the law. These priorities include a focus on a more robust and diverse STEM education pipeline, a stronger focus on STEM educators, and high-quality opportunities at all education levels to prepare students for the STEM workforce.
Read the letter here.
If your organization supports these priorities and is interested in signing on to our letter, please respond to this email with the organization you represent by Monday, October 28 at 4PM EST.
