    Education Savings Accounts: The Future of Educational Choice (E&S, H)

    Subject: The American Enterprise Institute (AEI) will host a panel discussion on education savings accounts, educational opportunity, and new and innovative forms of learning in and outside American schools. The event will also feature a keynote address from the former Governor of Florida, Jeb Bush.     School Choice (E&S)

    Subject: The National School Boards Association (NSBA) will host an event, “Our Public Schools: Expanding the Horizon of Educational Choice,” to highlight its new study, “Busting the Myth of One-Size- Fits-All Public Education.” In addition, a panel of education leaders representing school districts and public schools from across the nation will explain how they are offering parents and students robust choice options.

    Afterschool and Summer Learning Programs (E&S)

    Subject: The Senate Afterschool Caucus and Caucus Co-Chairs Senators Franken (D-MN) and Murkowski (R-AK) will host a briefing, “Back to Afterschool: Preparing Young People for Success in School and Life.” A diverse set of speakers will discuss the power of afterschool and summer programs to spark interest and help youth find their passion for learning during the hours when school is out.

    Briefing on the Student Support and Academic Enrichment Grant Program (E&S)

    Subject: The Title IV-A Coalition will hold a policy briefing on the Student Support and Academic Enrichment grant program newly authorized in the Every Student Succeeds Act. The briefing will explore the three areas that the program supports: well-rounded education, safe and healthy schools, and technology. Experts, parents and practitioners will discuss how these programs and services in schools are essential to supporting the whole child and why funding the program at its authorized level is critical to its success.

    Subject: The Learning Policy Institute, the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), the National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE), and the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) will host a panel discussion on “Understanding Teacher Turnover: Why it Matters and What We Can Do About It.” This forum will present new data on the extent, nature, and cost of teacher turnover, and recommendations for addressing the issue, including evidence-based policies at the federal, state, and local levels to create a strong pipeline into the profession and provide ongoing support to increase retention.
